When my doctor told me that I needed to go to hospital for special medicine called chemotherapy I asked why he couldn't give it to me, like he had when my throat was sore. He said that he is a General Practitioner, which means he is a doctor that treats a lot of common illnesses, but that some special illnesses need specially trained doctors. 

That's when I found out that there are lots and lots of different types of doctors who treat different people, depending on what is wrong with them. Some doctors specialise in looking after sick children, some only look after ladies, and some only look after one part of your body. Just like a dentist only looks after your teeth.

This is Dr. Lillie. She is my oncologist. That's a special type of doctor who looks after people who have leukaemia. She makes all the decisions about what kind of chemo I will have and how much I should have, as well as any other medicine or treatment I need, and how long I will stay in hospital. She can tell from my blood tests if the factories in my bone marrow are starting to get better and making healthy cells again.

There is another type of doctor that comes to see me in the hospital. Dr. Billy is a clown doctor, his special job is to help cheer up sick kids, that's why he dresses up like a clown. He comes to visit me once or twice a week when I am having treatment. He is very funny and silly, I call him Silly Billy. He makes me laugh a lot and always brings me a balloon. We tell jokes and sing songs together while he plays his funny little guitar. Some people say 'laughter is the best medicine' and seeing Dr. Billy always makes me feel better.
